Oh my Stars!

Just a quick little update about a project I did this weekend. My next big room to tackle is our guest bedroom. The walls are painted a bright blue color ( but when the lights are dim it almost looks navy.) that M picked out when we first moved in. It originally started out as his office, but over the last 3 years it has slowly turned into a guest room. It also has been a storage room. My mom has given us some furniture to make room for my grandfather moving into their house, so I'm using this as my excuse to finally clean up the room and style it. Because the walls are so bright, I'm planning on painting the furniture white and using different shades of blue with a hint of yellow as the accent colors. I'm hoping the white furniture will tone down the blue a little bit.

In the midst of painting a bookcase, I remember that we had this large metal star in the closet that I had no where to put. We have a total of 4. Two large and two small. 3 of them are hanging in our living room, but after doing this one, I want to paint all the rest!

This is the before picture. I spray painted it white thinking that it would look pretty cool hanging over the bed. Then I remember that I had a tube of rub n buff that I've never opened. So last night I tested out one corner of the star. I hated it. Then this morning I figured why not just do the whole thing and then decide. Now I LOVE IT! I'm even thinking I might use the silver on some of the white furniture to tie it all together.

Olive Green Barstools

FINALLY! I'm doing my post on my bar stools. It's been a long tedious journey with these two. Really, it has. I swear I will NEVER take on another project with spindles. (I know Justin Bieber .. never say never.) But they were a pain in the butt. But all in all I'm happy with how they turned out. I used Rust-oleum spray paint on these but I've already threw the cans away, so I hate to say I don't have the name of the color. Anywho .. pictures!

BEFORE!

AFTER!

I'll tack this onto this post so I don't write 2 in one day. (not that there's anything wrong with that! i'm just lazy.) My grandfather has made the decision to move in with my parents. He lives in a retirement home and I think he's just getting scared of being by himself all the time. We are all excited to have him out here! Now he'll always be here when we do fun things with the family and such. Anyways, the point that I'm making is that when he leaves his apartment, he won't need any of his furniture anymore. And everyone in the family agreed that I can have it! So, yeah .. I'm excited! Lots of new projects headed my way.

Speaking of projects... I was given this cedar chest a month or so ago. It's just sat around because I'm not sure exactly what I want to do with it yet. It had a pretty big crack down the center of the top, but M fixed it up on the inside so it's not coming apart any time soon. But because of that I didn't just want to restain it. So keep in mind when you see this picture, that it is getting painted! I've been using it as a base for painting a few other things.. :)

At first I really fell in love with this chest done by Cottage in the Oaks. And I just figured that I would do something along those lines, but maybe with an argyle patter on top. Then after seeing the things that Suzanne @ WhyCuzICan has done with the sheet music, I started thinking maybe covering the top in sheet music and painting the rest would be cute. Now I'm torn. So help me out .. What would you do??

[EDIT:  forgot to mention that I've been changing my layout around. i'm never satisfied with something for to long. but if my blog looks a little funky for the next few days .. i'm working on it!]

I'm still Kicking .. I Swear!!

So it's been a minute or two since I last posted anything. Things have been a tad crazy these last couple of weeks. Last Tuesday, my grandmother passed away. It was her time. She lived a long (93 years!!) and blessed life. I only cried a little, mainly because I know she is so much happier now. But it's still really hard to think about. Love you Mammaw!!

Been selling a few little pieces of furniture here and there. Today I planned on finished my barstools that I started a hundred years ago. So I take them outside to spray on their clear coat, come back inside, grab what I THOUGHT was clear coat .. and sprayed white paint onto my pretty green barstool. UGH! I was so devasted, BUT I pulled through and fixed it. It's still a little noticable in one spot, but I think that just adds to the "distressed" look. Tomorrow I should have some pictures.

Financially, things are getting a tad stressful. We messed ourselves up last payday and it's taking us a bit to get back on top. Things are kinda touch and go at M's job. They're getting ready to do some "budget cuts" and employee's could be the first thing to go. Lord be with us if that happens.

This weekend I'm gonna go job hunting. Just for a little part time something to help out. Until I can really kick off my furniture and stuff, the income I'm making just isn't quite steady enough to help out a whole lot.

So that's my life right now! Hope everyone else is having a much better week that I. Now, just because, a few pictures from my phone and some shameless plug for my facebook page! :)

Mammaw & my Dad the saturday before she passed. I'm so happy we went to see her!

Hershey wrapped up in a blanket one morning. It was chilly!!
