Hello Yellow!

New blog layout! I got bored last night, and as much as I love owls, I was just a little tired of looking at the old layout. Anywho, this post is to be about my yellow sofa table! It came from my uncle. I get alot of my things from him. He has a habit of buying new stuff and then 6 months later, wanting something else, so he just gives it away. Score! I forgot to take a before picture and I've even looked through old pictures hoping to find it in one of them. No such luck, so we'll start with the first coat of primer:

And then a second coat of primer:

And let me say, I am super messy with primer. I think I should probably start buying it in the spray cans, because when it's all over with, I'm covered. I even had it in my hair! And being oil based, it did NOT want to come off. Nightmare!

I actually had only bought a little paint sample bottle of this yellow color. The color is called "Warm Gold" in the Glidden brand. And I thought yellow would be such a fun color for a sofa table! So me and my little sample bottle got to painting:

The little sample got the whole table covered, but obviously it needed more coats. Which made me have to go out and buy a whole gallon of yellow! Well it didn't make me, I wanted to. I've actually decided to do yellow in my craft room now because I love this color so much! But that's a nightmare in itself and for a whoooole other post.

After buying more paint, and painting a few more coats. Then some light distressing and some clear coating. OH and I also painted the inside of the drawer a turquoise blue color that I had leftover from some bedroom things and lined it with a really pretty paper that I printed out from online! So, without further ado:

Hope you like it! I know I do! Yellow just makes me feel happy and I need all the happy I can get here lately. :)

Vintage End Tables

My mom bought these end tables (and coffee table, but that's somehow gone missing!) for my grandparents when they bought a new house. I believe I was like 3 at the time, so that makes them about 25 years old. That's Vintage! Whenever my grandparents decided to move outta there house and into "retirement" homes, I took on the tables to use in my first apartment. That was around 10 years ago. Now I'm actually just kinda tired of looking at them, so I decided that they needed a facelift. Here's what the tables looked like before:

When I first started, I was going to paint the edges in a beige color, so I assumed that I wouldn't have to prime. Big Mistake. So they sat half painted in my living room for over 2 weeks... then I finally went and bought some primer and got to work!

I'm not much for writing a tutorial of what all I did. Not to mention this is my first attempt at it! Hopefully with all the upcoming projects I have planned, it'll become easier for me to write it all out.

Now it's pouring down rain outside, the dogs are terrified of the thunder and I have so much work to do! I have about 8 loads of laundry, dishes, a craft room to start painting and some barstools to start sanding down. Although it's hard to move with 2 dogs under your feet at every moment...

Our wedding photo's finally came in today and I love them! Just one for now. Maybe tomorrow I'll post a few more. :)

Craft Room Start!

I've been wanting to turn our smallest spare room into a craft room for months now. Just so that I have someplace to keep all my supplies so that they aren't scattered all over the house, like they are now. I still have to move the bed out, and I'm not exactly sure where I'm going to store it. Our storage building is packed with holiday stuff and furniture waiting to be worked on. But last night I came up with a brilliant idea to decorate my room. At least I think so anyways. It all started with this...

I printed out letters on the computer to make a collage on the wall. Something to kinda display my name and make it feel more like me. After cutting allll these out, my hand was cramped up pretty bad. Plus I'm still not done, I've got several more flowers and such to cut out that go with it. So then I went and tacked them up on the wall with some painter's tape just to get an idea of how it would look before I made it perm.

I think its incredibly cute, but the color of the letters is awfully close to the wall color. I had planned to paint the window wall a lime green, but now I'm thinking that this wall should be green so that the letters will really POP! I also talked with M about building me a bookshelf for the opposite wall to store all my goodies in. Now if I can just figure out where to store that bed at, I can get things rolling!

Quick update and some Pictures!

So today was my first day "working" at home. My last day at my day job was Wednesday. I told myself I could have the weekend to be lazy and just enjoy myself. On friday night, I had a slumber party with myself. Saturday, I baked a rainbow cake! Sunday, I cooked Tequila Lime Chicken (just like Applebee's!) for M and my parents. Now it's time to get to work! I've been taking lots of pictures and have lots of things to update about but for now, just a quick picture of my first project.

I've got a pair of end tables that i've tackled as my first project. They were my grandparents and I was given them when I got my first apartment. There actually was a coffee table that matched them, but it has somehow disappeared. I don't remember throwing it out, but I guess I did. They have served me well for the last 10 years so now I'm passing them on..

a sneak peek!

In between coats of paint on these 2 guys, I set up a sofa table outside to be sanded and I went back and forth. The heat was ridiculous, within minutes I would have sweat rolling down my face. Yummy, I know. At the end of the day, I was left with this lovely sunburn. (excuse the nastiness that is me, this was pre-shower)

Now I'm clean, fed and ready to lay up for the night with this little cutie! Her name is Roxy and she belongs to my parents. They are having some issues dealing with potty training her and all her energy, so I'm taking her for the night. Not that I'm complaining! She's adorable and she loves it here with all our critters.
